Bet Olam Cemetery Rules and Regulations
The following rules and regulations have been developed for safety and aesthetic reasons. Your cooperation will help in maintaining the beauty and dignity of our cemetery.
- The use of this parcel is for the burial of persons of the Jewish faith. Only a Jewish service shall be permitted at funerals.
- Visitors and employees should always exhibit behavior that is becoming of a sacred place. Food and drink are forbidden.
- The cemetery is unable to guarantee safe footing. Be careful when walking in the cemetery.
- Neither the cemetery nor its workers accept any money for work done in the cemetery. DO NOT pay any fee or gratuity to any employee. Donations to the cemetery are welcome and are tax-deductible
- Vehicles should not exceed 5 mph while in the cemetery.
- DO NOT PARK OR DRIVE ON THE GRASS
- Water sheds are located throughout the cemetery, or you can always access water from the front of the office.
- The Cemetery, its board, and employees are NOT responsible for any items that are left at/or on a gravesite.
- All persons are prohibited from plucking/disturbing any vegetation, either wild or cultivated.
- All persons are prohibited from marring or damaging any monuments or landmarks, and/or defacing the cemetery grounds in any way.
- Pets must be on a leash at all times. Owners are expected to clean-up after their pets. Violations will be reported to animal control and the local police.
- FIREARMS ON CEMETERY GROUNDS ARE PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES
- The cemetery management reserves the right to remove anything from any gravesite at any time for any reason without any prior notice.
- The cemetery expressly disclaims responsibility or liability for accident or damage to person(s) or property due to defects of machinery, implements, tools, or any other equipment used in its work.
- Cremated remains are not allowed to be buried on the cemetery grounds.
- Internment will not be allowed unless a state-approved burial permit and an Ohio-licensed funeral director. are present.
- Dis-internments may only be permitted with an approved probate court ruling and/or permission. An Ohio- licensed funeral director must oversee the disinterment. A rabbi must grant permission.
- Internment and dis-internment may only be performed by the staff of the cemetery.
- A Minimum of 24 hrs. notice is required for a funeral service.
- Every grave requires a burial vault per the laws of the city of Beachwood. Bottomless vaults are acceptable in keeping with Jewish traditions.
- Every Synagogue is permitted to establish their own fee structure.
- Each synagogue section has specific regulations concerning monument size and placement for every section.
- A Mandatory period of six months is required before a monument foundation can be installed.
- No Monuments or Headstones will be accepted until a drawing showing the design, finish, size, and a paid foundation fee is accepted and approved by the Bet Olam Cemetery LLC. Board and Management.
- All monument dedications must be planned at least two weeks before the intended dedication date. This is to ensure that the site is properly prepared and to aid in traffic control.
- Every reasonable precaution will be extended to your family member’s monument. However, the cemetery assumes no responsibility for any damage that may occur to your loved one’s headstone. This includes but is not limited to the following: mowing, weed eating, storm damage, or damage that may be caused by the daily maintenance of the cemetery. Headstones are the property of the deceased’s families and in most cases can be covered by homeowners’ insurance.
- The normal process of ordering a headstone may take four to six months. Special permission for exceptions in stone design may take even longer. Please plan accordingly.

Planting season is May 1st to September 1st weather permitting.
The cutting/growing season is April 1st to October 31st weather permitting.
- Bet Olam Cemetery personnel, reserve the right to remove any vegetation (ie: plants, shrubs, flowers) or decoration at their discretion and without cause or notice. All failing flowers or shrubs, determined as such by the cemetery, will be removed at the cemetery staff’s discretion and without notice.
- Artificial flowers or decorations are not permitted between April 1st to October 31st as they may cause injury to visitors, employees, and equipment.
- Cut flowers must be placed in non-breakable containers such as a below ground vases or plastic containers. Cut flowers placed in containers deemed unacceptable by cemetery staff ie. glass vases/jars or other easily broken material (i.e.: porcelain), and tin cans, will be removed immediately and without notice.
- Potted plants are permitted during the growing season (see above). Potted plants are to be placed inside the frame border or as close to the monument as possible. This is to keep them from becoming an obstacle to visitors and workers. Potted Plants are not considered permanent markers and the cemetery staff reserves the right to remove or relocate any potted plants at their discretion
- Planting on gravesites is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to bushes, trees, flowers or any plants of any kind. Any violations of this rule will be removed immediately and without notice.
- Decorations in the grave area are not permitted. Any violation of this is subject to immediate removal without notice. This includes but is not limited to marble chips, stones of any kind, wood chips, mulch, bricks, etc. Vacant graves are to be left as green space.
- Veteran’s flags and holders are the responsibility of the Jewish War Veterans Post #44. The cemetery is not responsible for their placement or replacement. If available, replacement flags can be found in the office. Deteriorated flags will be removed at the cemetery’s discretion.
- Trash containers are readily available around the cemetery. Please discard waste or unwanted materials (such as paper, veil, cheese cloth, dead flowers etc.) in these trash containers. Leaving them laying on the ground or next to the road is not acceptable
Any special requests must be presented to the cemetery board at one of their quarterly meetings. The cemetery staff and its board hold the final decision to any questions and/or requests pertaining to these rules and regulations.
